WIDOW MOTHER, ITS PROBLEMS AND ITS FE
1 Kings 17:8-16

I. Introduction
A. How appropriate that we celebrate Mother's Day! that God created parents.
l. God established the home.
2. We honor our fathers and mothers.
B. Being a mother is difficult especially when there is no father present
C. Presentation of the widowed mother of Sarepta
II. Meditation
A. This mother and her relationship with her heavenly Father (v. 9)
1. "I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee."
2. Jesus spoke of the widow (Luke 4:25).
3. Some things to know about it.
a. She knew the Lord. B.
She had communion with God and know his will (He fed Elijah.) C.
She had gone through the school of affliction.
1) Her husband had died.
2) Was having financial difficulties.
4. Elijah found this good woman busy.
5. God always calls busy people to be served.
B. This mother and her fear (vv. 11-12)
l. Consider his affliction.
m. She knew the will of God, but feared not being able to do it.
n. Focused on what little they had. C.
I expected the worst: eating and die.
2. What can make us fear.
a. Robs us of our strength, enthusiasm and confidence. B.
Causes frustration and depression. C.
Our thoughts away from the power of God to work miracles and bring them to the limited resources we have.
3. Are you your defeated by your fears?
4. God loves us and wants to replace our fears with faith in Christ.
a. The cross demonstrates his love. B.
The resurrection proves that He is suitable for the occasion.
C. This mother and the triumph of his faith (vv. 13-16)
1. At first it seemed that his faith was dying, then it becomes dynamic.
2. First is fearful, then it is true.
3. First is part of the misery, then it is part of a miracle.
4. She hears the consolation of God's Word: "Fear not."
5. She hears the order of the Word of God: "First."
6. She hears the promise of the Word of God: "No shortage ¬ ra" (v. 14).
7. She obeyed and God honors their faith.
III. Conclusion
A. Faith triumphs at the problems still
B. Crucified and risen Lord will meet our present condition.
C. His grace is sufficient for the needs of mothers and all people
