PETER WALKS ON WATER
Matthew 14:22-36
.
I. Introduction
A. The calm before the storm (vv. 15-21)
1. Feeding the five thousand (vv. 19-22).
2. He sends the disciples in a boat (v. 22).
3. El Salvador praying on the mountain (v. 23).
B. The storm
1. It is a picture of the storms of life come to us all.
2. The disciples were scrambling to strong winds and waves (v. 24).
3. Jesus came walking on the water to encourage them (vv. 25-27).
C. The requirement of Peter: "Lord, if thou, bid me come unto thee" (v. 28)

II. Meditation
A. The invitation to trust (v. 29)
1. "Come." A word of invitation.
2. There are over 1900 invitations in the Bible.
3. Consider some of the invitations of Christ.
a. "Come to me ... and I will give you rest "(Matt. 11: 28). B.
Jesus invited children to come unto Him (Matt. 19:14). C.
Jesus invites the thirsty to come to Him and drink (Jn.7: 37). D.
All who come are received (John 6:37).

B. The adventure of faith (v. 29)
1. Pedro dropped the boat.
2. The knowledge that Peter was a fisherman from the sea.
a. Experiences of fellow who drowned. B.
I knew that the sea is treacherous.
3. There is something within us that takes delight in the adventure.
a. Jumping off a waterfall. B.
Mountain climbing, skydiving, car racing, space travel.
4. Peter walks on water and know that Christ is the Lord of all.
5. The adventure of leaving trusting God's promises.
a. By trusting God rather than the man. B.
To give and not knowing how God will provide. C.
While going to trust the Lord lead the way.

C. Opponents of faith (v. 30)
1. The wind was strong: your current circumstances.
a. Have you had a rough week? B.
Are you struggling with temptation? "With the fear? "With the trouble?
2. Peter fears were opponents of their faith.
a. Fear and faith are opposed. B.
"Never take counsel of your fears."
c. As the faith is increased, the fear lessens.

D. The resource of faith (v. 30)
1. But when everything seemed prayed lost.
a. It was a short prayer, intense. B.
A prayer that acknowledged the power of Christ to answer.
2. Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and saved Peter.
3. With Jesus, there is safety in being weak and needy.

III. Conclusion
A. Answers the call of God to a life of faith
B. He will receive and take care of you through the storms of life
